Like most graduates in India, I, with my batchmates, came to Bangalore, India, after graduation in pursuit of our living. We used to live near Marathahalli, Bangalore, after which Bangalore outskirts used to start. At that time, Outer Ring Road was not crowded. There were no bus stops between Marathahalli and Intel Bus stop, which is ~6KM and used to take a maximum of 10–15mins. With time, we witnessed exponential growth and construction of many Office and Residential buildings across Bangalore and mostly around Marathahalli. Now there are a minimum 5 bus stops in between the same 6KM stretch and it takes more than 30min depending on traffic jams. In the process of creating living & shelter for ourselves, we are invading others’ space without any compassion. And in return, we are losing old Bangalore’s greenery, nice climate and many other things.

In Mid December 2019, I reached the Office, located in Kadubeesanahalli, after 45 mins of bike ride(not bicycle) to commute 7.5KM. From the office building floor, we used to see other nearby buildings & very distant greenery. Office canteen located in one of corner of the building. One day, during lunch break, we saw an eagle sitting on the other side of the one-way mirror glass wall of the Canteen. We were happy to see a bird after a long time from such a close distance. We noticed that the eagle was not disturbed as we came closer to that wall. Eagle was sitting quietly with no sign of fear. The bird was Looking around its surroundings and also did not seem to be in a hurry. Not sure if it’s thirsty or not. Although we couldn’t do much because of the fitted glass wall. Maybe the bird was angry. But we hardly cared about it. We entertained ourselves by clicking pictures. Our (disturbing) actions were not able to disturb the calmness of the eagle. It was only because of our limitation, the bird was on the brighter side and we were on the darkened side of the glass wall, otherwise we never left behind to invade others’ space and privacy. After satisfying our own desire & curiosity, we left the canteen but the eagle was still sitting there in pursuit of its living, in this concrete world.

Eco-Space, Bangalore

When we grow, we care and share with our family, friends and society. Now it is time to give it back to Nature. Otherwise, we will be on the dark side forever.
